EAT: Gung Ho Deals, BJ Foodies, Gertz and Daily Bagel SLT Close
EAT: Your bite-sized guide to the best eats to be had in Beijing this week.
Gung Ho! has a whole host of new daily deals that offer a little something for everyone whether you're vegan, gluten-free, or just love pizza. The fun begins at their Sanlitun store on Monday with a set menu for two for just RMB 149 that includes a pizza, salad, side dish, and dessert or grab BOGOF pizzas on Tuesday. Vegans will love the Wednesday vegan lunch buffet and set meal for two (RMB 149), while Thursday makes gluten-free dining easy. Their lunch buffet, which runs every weekday at their Sanlitun store, is a steal at RMB 69 – surely one of the cheapest lunch deals in the area.
Join like-minded hungry diners at the new Obentos location in Lido for the latest BJ Foodies dinner on Sun, Feb 24. For just RMB 100 you can sample a range of Obentos' most popular dishes (12 to be exact) along with a drink (including a glass of wine or a beer). The menu is designed to be shared among groups of four diners, so get a few friends together before booking. BJ Foodies is a charity event and guests are encouraged to give donations during the meal. The chosen charity for this event is the Migrant Children's Foundation. More details and booking info, scan/extract the QR code above.
One of our favorite sandwich joints, The Daily Bagel, have moved on from last summer's pop-up at Yu Cafe and opened their own location in Maizidian – exactly where they started out, on the first floor of FX Hotel. You can again find them at 39 Maizidian Xijie, open daily from 8am-8pm. As before, the menu features a selection of sandwiches, open sandwiches, grilled cheese melts, and breakfast-type bagels. You pick your sandwich and then choose what kind of bagel you want from a selection including plain, sesame, everything, sea salt, and more. The Daily Bagel is also available for delivery on Sherpa's.
Sadly, Danish bakery Gertz will close its doors in Taikooli South at 10pm on Wednesday (today), Feb 20, so fans of Scandi-style baked goods will have to look elsewhere for their cinnamon rolls and open sandwiches... for now. According to a sign posted in their window, they plan to open a new store on May 1 in Sanlitun's 1949 The Hidden City. To say goodbye, Gertz is giving away 750ml bottles of imported pure Danish apple or cherry apple juice to anyone that buys a big bread today. Search "GertzDanishBakery" on WeChat to follow their official account and stay up-to-date with the latest goings-on.
